And that's a wrap! Another year, another fashion week... And as always, it was a lot of fun. While I love seeing the shows and soaking up the atmosphere, one of my favourite parts of the week is definitely socialising. It's a great opportunity to catch up with friends and clients for coffee, lunch, dinner or even just a chat between shows. It's always nice to look back over highlights from the week, so I wanted to share some of my notes, runway and outfit snaps with you. But first, I want to take a minute to tell you about my Fashion Week partner in crime, the Olympus PEN-F.
I'm always on the hunt for the perfect photo op, whether it be the final walk at an amazing show or a quick snap of what I'm wearing against a unique backdrop. Given that you never know when you'll need to be ready, I like to have my camera handy at all times. Lucky for me, Olympus was the official camera sponsor of this year's Mercedes Benz Sydney Fashion Week, so I got to spend the week snapping away fun and fashion-filled coverage. Given that streetstyle is a big part of the game, it's great having a camera that looks the part. My PEN-F was perfectly in place slung over my shoulder alongside a rotation of favourite handbags throughout the week. With a sleek leather strap, and a stylish metal body, it's an accessory in its own right, and a very practical one at that. Apart from keeping up appearances, the camera offers a whole bunch of amazing features that make it incredibly user-friendly and efficient for a week on the go. I'm a big fan of the wi-fi capability which allows you to share images from your camera straight to your phone ready for uploading to Instagram. It's also the perfect size and weight to carry around - from breakfast meetings to daytime shows, to after parties, to make sure you never miss that perfect shot.
So with my trusty companion by my side, I captured some of my favourite moments throughout the week. Hope you enjoy this little roundup!
Hansen & Gretel, Anna Quan & Vale Denim all showed for the first time - each offering their own take on Australia style. From Hansen & Gretel's playful prints, to Anna Quan's perfect shirting and Vale's fresh denim offerings, I'm predicting big things to come. Watch this space!
The Old Favourites
Dion Lee who has been showing in New York for the past few seasons, came back to open the week. With a show at the iconic Opera House and a fusion of his sharp tailoring alongside block colours and fluid shapes, this was a great way to ease in to the week. It was also great to see shows by Australian design icons Bianca Spender, Kit X, Michael Lo Sordo and Christopher Esber.
Fashion Week wouldn't be complete without a dinner at Fratelli. My go-to is a glass of red wine paired with a delicious bowl of pasta. I also love coffee catch-ups at Bread & Circus and lunch at Three Queens in Newtown.
Putting together looks is definitely a fun part of my job! These were two of my favourite outfits from the week - a crochet dress by Hansen & Gretel paired back with a statement Dinosaur Designs earring, and a Bally handbag; and a cropped jacket by Courreges paired with a pleated Phillip Lim skirt, Saint Laurent tee and Gucci pumps.
The Show Stopper
The Albus Lumen show held at the beautiful La Porte space in Rosebery was a real highlight. Set against a backdrop of Moroccan tiles and foliage, models walked barefoot in effortless resort wear complete with the occasional straw basket, and custom jewellery by Ryan Storer.
