As Winter nears its approach, I always feel the need to switch up my skincare routine. The main thing I notice is my skin has a tendency to dry out very quickly - so a thicker moisturiser for night, adding in a serum after cleansing, hydrating masks and a rich eye cream are all necessary pieces of the puzzle.
I have discovered quite a few new products that I absolutely love lately, here goes!
This is probably the newest addition to my skincare routine. I never felt the need to use a hydrating serum in the past, but thanks to the weather, the effects of the sun, and lets face it, ageing (!), this baby is is here to stay.
I recently got to experience the launch of Chanel's Blue Serum during a facial at the Melanie Grant clinic in Double Bay. After a light lactic peel and omnliux light therapy, the serum was applied for increased hydration. I left with my skin feeling refreshed, soft and supple which was such a treat. The ingredients for the serum are taken from blue zones - areas that are homes to the world's longest-living people, so you can guarantee some great anti-ageing benefits.
I'm a big fan of Charlotte Tilburys' Magic Cream, but it was only this month that I have tried the night rescue version. This cream is very rich so you only need a tiny bit - I apply after cleaning and serum, just before bed. It really works miracles over night and brings my skin back to life. In the morning it looks fresh and glowy, ready to start the day. The secret I have discovered is to use 2-3 nights a week (depending on your skin type). My skin can be quite combination, so I have to alternate a heavier moisturiser with something lighter to avoid breaking out.
I have also had the pleasure of trying Chanel's Fresh Body Cream, which is heaven in a tub. Not only does it look beautiful on your dresser, but it nourishes skin and leaves a beautiful soft fragrance to compliment your perfume.
This is another winner, by one of my favourite brands, Sunday Riley. I'm a long time user of their Ceramic Slip Cleanser and Good Genes Treatment, so I was very excited when they sent me a selection of new products to try. I had been really wanting to try a retinol oil after reading so much about them, so first up was their Luna Sleeping Nigh Oil. This potent formula goes on blue but blends into the skin clear, leaving you with a radiant complexion. I really love the idea of combining a retinol (great for combatting wrinkles and enlarged pores) with a hydrating oil (blue tansy, the star ingredient has antibacterial, antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties to soothe and minimize redness). A must try - I ruse this gem twice a week after my light moisturiser, when I'm not using night cream.
I have been lucky to have a few gorgeous fragrances come my way lately! Here is what I have on rotation...
Byredo Unnamed - a limited edition with notes of pink pepper, gin accord, violet, tree moss & fir balsam
Lumira Persian Rose - My friend Eleanor who recently launched an e-shop for Gritty Pretty introduced me to this fragrance. It's a beautifully lush rose, geranium & amber scent in a handy roll on which is great for travelling or throwing in your purse.
Ferragamo Signorina In Fiore - You might remember the gorgeous pink bottle from my recent post. With notes of nashi pear, cherry blossom & sandalwood, it's a light and feminine fragrance for the modern romantic.
David Mallet Le Salon En Hiver Candle - designed to create a warm, cosy atmosphere on a winters day. With notes of bergamot, cinnamon, woody vetiver and tobacco I'll be burning this through Autumn right to Spring,
Gascoigne & King X Gritty Pretty Candle - I have both of these fragrances, and I love them, though if I have to choose a favourite, it would probably be Gritty. With notes of cedarwood, sandlwood and chocolate , it fragrances the room even when it's not burning.
While it may be quite an investment, when it comes to splurging on a product, eye cream it definitely worth it. I was given a sample of La Mer's intense eye balm, and I'm now addicted. Bad news for my bank account, great news for those dark circles.
Another indulgence that I love is Baume de Rose, a beautiful rose scented lip balm from By Terry. I use it on my lips and cuticles and it works a treat. A little goes a long way with this one, so you'll find it lasting for quite a while.
