Beauty Note: Classic Black Eyeliner

When it comes to a flawless evening look, I can't go past black eyeliner. When applied with precision, and a subtle feline flick, it's my statement eye of choice. Here, makeup artist Katie Angus shares how to perfect it yourself at home.

A classic black eyeliner look is a favourite of mine as it is not only chic but universally wearable and complimentary. Sticking to one clean line immediately opens the eye up as your focus is drawn away from the under eye, a problem area for many! Here, skin was prepped with Dermalogica daily resurfacer then Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream. My favourite Girogio Armani Luminous Silk foundation and Tom ford shade and illuminate provide a subtle contour and highlight.

For the eyes I recommend to always remove oils from the eyelid area with a fin e transcluscent powder such as MAC's prep and prime loose finishing powder and even out skin tone with your foundation to set a base. In this case I have also used a light wash of MAC's pro longwear paintpot in 'Groundwork'. For most eye types I recommend starting with a waterproof liner on the upper waterline and through the lash line before starting your visible eyeliner. With an angled Zoeva brush and MAC 'blacktrack' I followed close to the lash line and extended out following the natural shape of the eye. I then went over this with Charlotte Tilbury 'the feline flick' eyeliner pen for final precision.
