This May marked my second visit to Los Angeles, and I couldn't wait to explore the city again through the eyes of a somewhat seasoned traveller to the US. I know how to tip, how to get around and where to eat, but I was on the hunt for somewhere new to stay. Mama Shelter's LA outpost opened late last year, and our visit coincided with the opening of their new rooftop cocktail bar. With LA bringing the sunshine, it seemed like a perfect idea to check in for four days and book dinner up on the roof - nothing beats those LA sunsets after all.
We arrived after an early morning flight from Mexico City, and while waiting for room to be ready, decided their weekend brunch served in the downstairs restaurant was calling our name. The fact that Mama have an entirely separate menu just for waffles, complete with photos, pretty much made my weekend. The service and food were both exceptional making us fall in love with the hotel before we had even checked in!
Things kept getting better when we arrived to our room and realised we had been upgraded to a lovely corner suite with Hollywood views (I loved peering out the window and glimpsing the iconic sign). Our room was the perfect size, complete with the cutest toiletries and a desk with iMac which controls the room. Mama's stylish yet quirky approach to design is the icing on the cake - I'm still dreaming about the marble, subway tiled and blush pink bathroom.
We waited until the last night for our sunset rooftop dinner which was picture perfect. I recommend either a glass of rosé or a cocktail to toast to that incredible view and a fun time spent in LALAland. Sadly we lost all our photos from this day of our trip, but hopefully the above gives you an idea of what to expect from a a sunny few days at Mama. Can't hardly wait until next time, LA.
