Back To The Barre: My Fitness Style

After returning home from a big trip, one of my favourite things to do is get right back into my fitness routine. It's not always easy to keep it up while I'm travelling, so I make the most of my time back in Sydney by squeezing in extra classes during the week. Over the past few years and after trying all manner of classes and home videos, I have finally figured out what I enjoy doing the most, and what works for my body. It comes down to a mixture of walking (I don't have a car, so that helps!), yoga, pilates and barre classes.

I first found out about barre through the film Black Swan. Natalie Portman was trained by former professional ballerina, Mary-Helen Bowers who also founded Ballet Beautiful, one of the first studios of its kind in New York. This sparked my interest, and before long I had discovered Barre Body who offer a variety of  classes in their aesthetically pleasing studios throughout Australia. The above was shot at their CBD studio which opened last year and definitely inspires you to keep coming back!

Apart from beautiful surroundings, the other thing that inspires me to leave the house and get working out is nice activewear. Having well-fitting pieces in appropriate fabrications will make classes so much easier, and with an endless selection of colours, prints and styles on offer, there is absolutely something for everyone. The foundation of my workout wardrobe is a great pair of leggings, I wear them at home, running and to the gym, so they get a lot of wear! I have a few pairs which I rotate alongside crop tops, tanks and easy sweaters for getting to and from the studio, and savasana.
