Eat: Redbird

When it comes to travelling, one of my highlights is always the food. On our recent trip to LA, my husband, Rohan, and I had our sights firmly set on visiting a few museums and galleries, making a weekend trip out to Palm Springs, window shopping at a few of my favourite spots on Melrose and of course, hitting up a few favourite foodie destinations.

We were very lucky to discover Redbird on our first trip to LA last year. Stopping by for a beautiful lunch under the open roof on a lovely September day was one our highlights when exploring DTLA, so it seemed like fate when Redbird emailed introducing their new Sunday brunch menu, just days before our arrival.

I'm a big brunch girl, in fact breakfast is probably my favourite meal of the day. That being said, I'm always looking to try something new, and the thought of enjoying a ritual Sunday brunch in a space as beautiful as Redbird was very exciting.

First to arrive were these stunning pastries which were the perfect accompaniment to a creamy latte. We sampled the danish, berliner and bostock which were all incredibly deliscous - If only every breakfast started like this! Next up were our mains which were accompanied with brunch cocktails. This isn't such a big thing in Australia but I can definitely see the appeal in a little something extra with your main, it is brunch after all... The 'Good Morning Vietnam' was a dreamy mix of rum, cold brew and coconut while the 'Spring Forward Fall Back' was fresh and fruity with a gin base.

For the mains, you can't go past the fried egg sandwich, this guy is filled with egg, pancetta, rocket, harissa aioli and gruyere and also comes with fries, enough said. If you're more of a sweet breakfast person, the waffles also looked like a good choice. Although you can't really wrong with anything on the menu, chef Neal Fraser knows his food.

Thank you Redbird for having us in for such a beautiful brunch. If you're in the area, definitely stop by (they do amazing desserts too). And as for LA, we'll see you again soon.
