How To Wear the Black Jumpsuit

Date night meets Karate Kid.

I've chronicled my love of all things one-piece over the years and when it comes to my affinity for jumpsuit dressing, some things never change. Not only is the style flattering on most body shapes, defining your waist and elongating you legs, but it's also a fail-safe way to dress up for both daytime or a night out.

My general rule for the black jumpsuit is to let it do the talking. I like to keep accessories to a minimum and stick to a pair of sunglasses, flats and my watch for day, and then add a little bit of jewelery (usually either earrings or a necklace and then a fine bracelet and rings as desired) with a heel for evening. For those slightly cooler nights, a black jacket or coat can be thrown over for effortless layering. Do your research, try on a few styles and find the shape that will best suit you. I usually prefer a bit of balance and opt for a more fitted or exposed top if I'm doing a full leg. Or, if it's a playsuit I like a long sleeve and a crew neck to balance out the shorter length.

This style from H&M's new Conscious collection has a sleek halter neck with a cross-over front and fold over lapels. The karate-style waist tie, open back and wide leg give it a new season update and I'm partial to a hoop earring with just about everything. Jump on it.
